Tack Locker Armoire (Tack-oire)
Made from a cheap thrift store TV cabinet
As it beganFinding a cabinet at least 24 inches deep (for English saddles) was the trick. Added bonus: love the vine scrolls and bifold top doors. Cost: $25 at the ARC Thrift store.
Approx dimensions: 43.5 in wide, 27.5 in deep. Top is 43.5 in tall. Bottom is 23.5 in tall. |
Planning PhaseI didn't want to make holes in the wood and I decided I wanted removable/movable saddle racks. So I used the built-in shelf standards and braced a 2x6 across the back to hold the saddle racks.
I also had to build bottom doors as mine were missing. |
Ready for RacksJust needs lower shelf and latch hardware.
The kitty is covering the original wire hole but it will swing out of the way if I want to pass a cord through. |
Finished Tack-oire
The bridle racks pull out using drawer slides. The saddle racks slide over the boards in back. Since the side rails are supported by shelf holders they're totally adjustable and removable.
For the saddle racks I got the Easy Up Portable Saddle Pad N Rack (http://www.sstack.com/Stable_RacksOrganizers_Saddle-Racks-Carts-Stands/Easy-Up-Portable-Saddle-N-Pad-Rack) |
Tadaaaa! I decided to make the shelf a cut-out so things in the back were accessible and a brush box would fit in front. It's totally adjustable or replaceable if I change my mind.
Love having my stuff protected and so easily accessible! |
